How to make certificates from an Excel list
Put one person on each row, with headers in the first row. Upload the XLSX or XLS file in the sheetcerts tool. Map the name column, edit the template, and download a ZIP of PDFs or images.
A sheet that generates cleanly
Row 1 is headers. Do not merge cells in the header row. Avoid a title above the headers, because the first non-empty row is treated as the header. Empty rows are skipped. Lists longer than 5,000 rows are cut off. The free plan still generates 10 certificates.
Columns worth having
Name, course or event, date, and organization cover most templates. Hours and email are optional. Any other header can still be inserted as {{header}} in the editor. Email is not used to send mail.
What the download contains
One PDF, PNG, or JPG per generated row, packed in a ZIP. Filenames come from the recipient name. Choose A4 or US Letter, and landscape or portrait, before you export.
Steps
- 1.Put headers in row 1. Use names such as Name, Course, Date, and Organization. One person per row under that.
- 2.Save as XLSX, XLS, or CSV. Upload that file in the tool. Bring the file you already use for the event.
- 3.Check the suggested mapping. The tool matches common header names. Change a mapping if the guess is wrong. The first column is used as the name if nothing matches.
- 4.Edit the template and download. Change text, colors, fonts, and which elements show. Then choose PDF, PNG, or JPG.
Free covers 10 certificates per batch, with a small sheetcerts mark. Batch pass is $5 once for up to 200, without the mark. Pro is $19 a month or $190 a year, up to 500 a month, with saved templates. Team is $39 a month or $390 a year, up to 3,000 a month, with a public check page.
Open the editor and bring your spreadsheet.
Questions
Does Excel have to be installed?
No. The tool reads the file you upload. It does not open the Excel application.
Can I use more than one worksheet?
The first worksheet in the workbook is the one that is read. Move your list to the first sheet or save that sheet on its own.
Why were some rows skipped?
Rows with no text are skipped. Rows after 5,000 data rows are not read. Rows beyond your plan limit are listed in the preview count but left out of the ZIP, with a note.
